The confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers seen from Belgrade Fortress

Sector

Transportation and Logistics

A position on the main road corridors between Central Europe and Turkey and on the Danube, with infrastructure investment under way and free zones built for distribution.

The opportunity

Serbia sits on the main road corridors between Central Europe and Turkey and on the Danube, which links it to Central Europe upstream and the Black Sea downstream. Belgrade, Niš and Kraljevo operate international cargo airports, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia reports about 400 kilometers of new motorway under construction, alongside the railway from Belgrade to Budapest.

American firms are already part of this build-out. Bechtel, with its partner Enka, has opened most of the 112-kilometer Morava Corridor motorway, and aviation equipment is among the leading U.S. exports to Serbia. For distribution, Serbia's 15 free zones host more than 250 international companies.

The constraints are real. Freight vehicles wait about ten hours on average at border crossings between the Western Balkans and the EU, according to the Foreign Investors Council, which is why rail, intermodal terminals and border procedures belong in any logistics plan.

Where partnerships form

Freight forwarding and contract logistics, warehousing and distribution in free zones, supply of transport and aviation equipment, and engineering and project management on infrastructure programs.
